Biomass is a sustainable renewable fuel produced from organic material. At Advanced Biomass we work with wood fuel, in the form of split logs, wood chips or wood pellets.
Wood Logs
What every day folk call firewood, produced from felled trees it is the simplest form of biomass.
The logs are best split whilst “green” and left to season until a moisture content of less than 20% is achieved before burning.
Wood Chips
Wood chips are small pieces of logs or wood waste. These are formed by passing through a chipping machine, which turns them into 30mm pieces, also known as G30.
The wood should be well seasoned, with a moisture content lower than 30% before being chipped.
Wood Pellets
Typically 6mm in diameter processed from wood chip and sawdust.
Pellets are extremely dense and can be produced with a low moisture content (below 10%) that allows them to be burned with a very high combustion efficiency.
Pellets that are ENplus A1 certified and BSL accredited meet the criteria for Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) approval.
